First grade families:
We had a busy and eventful week! A huge thank you to all of you who participated in our read-a-thon and showed your love of literature. Our scholars had so much fun watching Dr. Atolagbe, Coach Cook and our great hearted teachers get dunked at our assembly on Friday. This week we will catch a rhythm, but never fear we observe Veteran's Day on the 12th and of course Thanksgiving is right around the corner. Please remember that there is no school the day before Thanksgiving.
In our curriculum this week:
We will take our third Morrison McCall test on Monday
Phonograms 1-74 (please focus on 51-74 at home as these are still new for our scholars)
than, its, his, her, it's, very, or, thank, dear, west
sold, told, best, form, far, gave, alike, add, brave, corn
Our poem for November is "Thanksgiving Day" and will go home this week. We will continue looking at fairy tale elements as we read through Jack and the Beanstalk and Puss n Boots.
Scholars will count forward and backward to subtract our focus is on numbers within 20. We will also subtract a one digit number by subtracting from the group of ten. Please continue to practice addition and subtraction facts through 20. Our test will be on Friday.
This week our habitat unit takes us to the ocean. Scholars will identify the four major oceans and differentiate between the different layers.
We continue with our exploration of ancient civilizations. We will read through stories of the Aztec and create an Aztec calendar.
We are looking forward to a great week ahead, and as always appreciate all you do for our scholars!
