Welcome to the 4th full week of first grade! At this point we are settled into our routines and curriculum. I know you all have been working hard on homework with your scholar. Please continue to keep us posted on how things are going as we move forward this year with a lightened homework load. In addition please remember to send the homework packet to and from school each day. We do the first portion of Spalding homework in class.
We are need of a few families to make play-doh and bring paper plates for an upcoming project in history. We are excited to move forward in our exciting curriculum. We have a few reminders for this upcoming week. 1. We will begin benchmark testing this week. We are transitioning from MAP to the more efficient Galileo testing this year. DIBELS will also begin this week. 2. Homework will begin this week. If you have any questions please contact your child's teacher directly. Please remember this should only take 25-35 minutes. Your child will receive two leveled readers each Monday. Please use these for the reading portion of homework. Our intention is that your child master decoding, comprehension, and fluency at his or her level. 3. Picture day is on August 20th. This week we will be learning: Math: Number Bonds History: Mesopotamia Science: States of Matter ELA: Exploring Fables and determining the moral of the story Writing: Writing a sentence using the 5 parts of a sentence We are excited that our first full week of instruction is finally here! We have been planning and preparing, and we can't wait to share the wonders of first grade with your scholar. A few items to remember headed into the week:
1. Please make sure your child has a water bottle each day 2. We do enjoy a snack daily- please make sure your child has a mess free snack that is also nut free. 3. Wednesday dismissal is at 12:30! Please make sure you have a plan for your student's early dismissal beginning this Wednesday. (There are wonderful club options found on our website, www.archwaylincoln.org) This week your scholar will be learning the following: ELA: Kevin Henkes, Aesop Fables Poetry: The Caterpillar by: Christina Rossetti Math: Using a storyboard to solve math problems; skip counting History: What is History? Introduction to Mesopotamia Science: The Scientific Process (ask your students what they learned during their Jitter Juice experiment!) Writing: What makes a complete sentence?
